Know the location of the fire alarm station and fire exit nearest your dormitory room and to each of your class-rooms. fire alarms protect property and can save lives. False alarms endanger lives and also increase the cost of fire protection.
A false alarm is not a practical joke, it is a crime
If You Discover a Fire:
Sound the alarm, call the Fire Department 911 and University Police Ext. 7490, or 520-7490. Leave the building immediately and do not return back until the all clear is given.
Fire Survival Tips
- Don't open the door if the doorknob or door is warm
- If you cant leave a room, open a window at the top and bottom, hang something out the window to attract attention and shout for help
- Crawl to stay beneath smoke if necessary
- Don't jump from above the 2nd floor
- Use the fire exits, Never use an elevator
- If you are trapped in a room, seal cracks around the door with tape, clothes, sheets, etc.
