Welcome to the 2008 Family Weekend

Parent Information

January 23, 2008

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Greetings from the Center for Student Leadership & Service!  With the spring semester well underway, we are currently planning exciting events, one of which is Family Weekend.  This eventful occasion brings together the entire Xavier University family for fun, festivity, and culture.  And we would love for you to join us!

Family Weekend will take place on February 29-March 2, 2008 and is an excellent opportunity to visit your son or daughter and join in the spirit of Xavier University. With a host of activities planned, you are sure to have a great time during one of the most anticipated weekends on our campus. We will welcome you at an opening reception on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the University Center. The Welcome Reception will be followed by a Step Show Competition. “Non-traditional” steppers, under the direction of members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, will be showcasing their talents in the Barn, Xavier University’s gymnasium. Saturday’s schedule of events will feature [OMIT "with"] a choice of tours beginning at 1:30 p.m., either by way of the historic St. Charles Avenue streetcar to view the spectacular sites of the city, or a visit to the ever-popular "Mardi Gras World" just across the Mississippi River from downtown New Orleans. That evening, it's the annual "CrossTown Classic" basketball game, featuring the Xavier men's and women's teams versus Dillard University and scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m at the New Orleans Arena.

On Sunday, March 2, we will hold Honors Convocation, which celebrates those freshmen who have made the Dean’s List during the Fall 2007 semester.  A New Orleans style brunch will follow, the weekend’s culminating activity.

We hope that you consider joining us on this special weekend.  The cost for each event has been listed in the enclosed registration pamphlet.  In addition, discounted hotel rates are provided by the Maison St. Charles to assist in your travel arrangements.  Should you wish to attend, please complete the enclosed registration pamphlet, make your money order payable to Xavier University, and forward both to the address listed above by February 20, 2008.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (504) 520-7320 or
e-mail at ktnavarr@xula.edu.  We look forward to seeing you next month.

Sincerely,

Kawana T. Coulon, Coordinator
