Imagine performing before the Pope in Rome's magical St. Peter's Basillica, jamming with Stevie Wonder, or perhaps touring the Midwestern United States. Over the years, Xavier music students have done all that and more.

Xavier faculty are talented and experienced professionals who have a unified goal of offering students a sound and well-rounded music education. Emphasis is placed on performance, music education and music in the liberal arts. Other areas of study include music history and literature, jazz studies, African-American music and opera.

Do you prefer the classical works of the great masters? Or does your taste lean more toward spirituals, gospel, folk, jazz, or more contemporary styles? You'll experience it at Xavier.

The programs in the Department of Music have as their objective the preparation of qualified students to make effective and meaningful contributions to the discipline of music performance, and/or the teaching of music, and/or music scholarship. This preparation is accomplished through training in the classroom, the studio, through music technology and through actual performance venues. The objective of each program is to provide a foundation for further study and to help develop the musical skills required for a career as a musician – musician teacher, musician-artist, and the liberally educated musician.
