Employee Health and Fitness Day
Counseling, Health Services and Recreational Sports will host the annual Employee Health and Fitness Day WEDNESDAY (May 14). Activities include a dress down day, free health screenings (11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2nd floor, University Center), a walk around campus (at noon), and a two-hour lunch break (UC Room 205). This event has been approved by Calvin Tregre, but employees must get approval from their immediate supervisor to participate.
2005-2006 Yearbooks Available
2005-2006 Katrina Yearbooks are now available for students who attended Xavier in the fall 2005 - summer 2006. Copies can be picked up at Xavier South, Room 109. Graduates now living out of town can request mailing by sending an e-mail to vcfarve@xula.edu providing the following info: 1. Yearbook Requesting, 2. Full name (First, Last, Middle) and 3. Commencement 2008
Xavier will hold its 81st annual commencement SATURDAY (May 10) at 10:00 a.m. at the Kiefer Lakefront Arena. Broadcaster, author, advocate and philanthropist Tavis Smiley will be the keynote speaker. The Baccalaureate Mass will be held FRIDAY (May 09) at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. The Most Rev. Curtis Guillory, SVD, Bishop of the Diocese of Beaumont TX, will serve as celebrant and homilist for the Mass.
Faculty/Staff Cap and Gown Pickup
Faculty and staff who ordered rental caps and gowns for commencement can pick them up at the Office of Auxiliary & Support Services, located in Room 122 of the University Center. For more info call ext. 6780.

Mother's Day Giveaway!
Join Campus Ministry as it donates little gifts to honor mothers who are clients at Kingsley Houses' senior day care program. Pharmacy Expansion - Tuesday Groundbreaking!
Xavier will be abuzz again with media and other guests on TUESDAY (April 29) as representatives from the State of Qatar visit the campus from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. for a ground breaking ceremony and luncheon to commence construction of a major addition to the College of Pharmacy – the Qatar Pharmacy Pavilion - made possible by a $12.5 million grant from Qatar following Hurricane Katrina. XU Undergraduate Research Journal Online
XULAneXUS, the university’s online undergraduate research journal, is back following a two-year post-Katrina absence. The revised journal features a new web design, a peer-reviewed editorial process, and multimedia content. Volume 5, which is available online , features eight student-authored projects, including work from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEM disciplines. Applications are also being accepted for the 2008-2009 Student Editorial Review Board, which pays a stipend. Applications are due April 28. For more info contact Dr. Ross Louis .

All positions for the fall 2008 Xavier Herald staff are open to students from all majors. Students must be in good academic standing and have the time required for this award-winning publication. Town Hall Meetings on Strategic Plan TUESDAY
What should Xavier University be like three years from now? Five years from now, how should we look? How many students? What about ten years from now? Those are the kind of questions that students, faculty and staff are invited to discuss at a "town hall" style meeting regarding the university’s strategic plan TUESDAY (April 8) from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Adm. Building Auditorium. Dr. Thomas Scheye, a strategic consultant engaged by XU to help facilitate the development of the plan, will outline some of the key issues and tensions that have emerged from the work of the eight workgroups. A second meeting, limited to faculty and senior staff, will be held during the University Academic Assembly (NCF 105, 5:00 p.m.) that same day. Demolition of Old Student Center, Parking and Traffic Changes
Construction crews are moving into place for the planned demolition of the "old" Student Center, followed by construction of a new 60,000 square foot expansion to the College of Pharmacy. Effective immediately there will be NO PARKING and NO THROUGH TRAFFIC along Howard Avenue between the Student Center and the XU tennis courts. The College of Pharmacy’s Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Education (CMHDRE) is readying to host its second annual Health Disparities Conference to address health disparities and showcase the significance of mid-level providers THURSDAY-FRIDAY (April 10-12). March Madness: Rush, Nuggets headed for NAIA National Tournament
The Gold Rush and Gold Nugget basketball teams have each earned spots in their respective national tournament and open play THURSDAY (March 20). ASIST Training
Student Health Service will sponsor another ASIST program TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY (March 18-19) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The two-day suicide intervention training provides skills to identify and intervene in a potential suicide situation. Summer Science Academy Accepting Applications
Applications are now being accepted for the XU Summer Science Academy. All programs will be held on the university's campus from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Program cost is determined by the participant's grade point average; partial scholarships are available for all programs. Program dates and application deadlines are: MathStar (June 9-20), deadline to apply June 2; BioStar (June 11-July 1), deadline June 4; ChemStar (July 7-25), deadline June 30; and SOAR1 (June 30-July 25), deadline June 2. ASIST Training
Student Health Service will sponsor another ASIST program March 18-19 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The two-day suicide intervention training provides skills to identify and intervene in a potential suicide situation. The program is free, provided through a Garrett Lee Smith grant and offered through the La. Dept of Mental Health. There are 20 student spots available. If interested contact Ms. Medley in Student Health at ext. 7396. Remember, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college age students.
Lenten Spring Concert
The XU Concert Choir will present a Lenten Spring Concert THURSDAY (March 13) at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. The deadline for spring applications for the history honors society – Phi Alpha Theta – is FRIDAY (March 14). Eligibility requirements are completion of at least 12 semester hours in history with a 3.1 GPA in history and an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Cancer Benefit
During March the 'Dainty' Delta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will be selling paper moons and stars to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The cost for the moons and stars will be $1 each and will go towards the chapter's team goal of $200 to be donated on behalf of Xavier. The Relay for Life event is scheduled for April 4. Walk it Out Fundraiser

Alpha Phi Alpha Oratorical Contest, Step Show
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is sponsoring two events: the William E. Tickets Still Available for XU-DU at the Arena
Tickets are still available for the annual XU-vs-DU "Cross Town Classic" basketball game on SATURDAY (March 1) at The New Orleans Arena. Game times are 5:00 p.m. (Gold Nuggets) and 7:00 p.m. (Gold Rush) with special guest high school band performances. Ticket prices are $10, $15, and $20 on sale weekdays at the Athletics Department and during the lunch hour at the lobby of the University Center all week long. A special student "tailgate party" is planned on campus for that Saturday afternoon, with free pizza and soda – plus complimentary bus rides from the campus to the basketball game.
St. Katharine Drexel Feast Day
