Sharpe Online Reference (SOLR) explores the broad range of events, people, movements, and political, social, economic, and cultural issues that have shaped the nation from colonial times to the present day.

Organized by historical periods and topical categories, this collection of links provides direct-click access to nearly 650 carefully selected and vetted Web sites pertaining to American history and culture. All sites have been selected for authority, depth and quality of information, and stability.

/Primary Source Archive/
This text and media module makes history come alive through first-person accounts, vintage illustrations, document reproductions, and a selection of multimedia features—including audio recordings and video clips—of seminal historic events, notable figures, speeches, court rulings, and social and artistic movements. Consisting of more than 250 documents, images, and audio/visual clips from colonial times to the twenty-first century, the archive also includes a visual timeline for context and navigation, and concise commentary on every text and media item.

/For users interested in exploring the photograph collection in the SOLR collection of encyclopedias, the Image Gallery provides easy navigation and ready access. Search for a specific subject or browse alphabetically, then click on a thumbnail for full-size display, caption text, and a link to the corresponding encyclopedia article.

LexisNexis Congressional Digital Archive Subscription - The LexisNexis Serial Set Digital Collection_* provides comprehensive, full-text access to over 337,000 Congressional and Executive branch documents and reports published in over 13,000
volumes of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set from 1817-1969. The /Serial Set Digital Collection/ also provides full text access to the
entire American State Papers series at no additional charge.

LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection II - contains all published House and Senate documents and reports from 1970 to the
present as text-enabled PDFs. The reports are usually from congressional committees dealing with proposed legislation and issues
under investigation. Invaluable to researchers because they explain the legislative intent of bills under consideration.

How to access Xavier databases from off campus

Academic Search Premier- /Academic Search Complete/ is a valuable and comprehensive *scholarly*, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,990 full-text periodicals, including more than *5,030 peer-reviewed journals*. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,990 journals and a total of more than 10,400 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features Adobe PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 journals. Make certain to check the "Peer-Reviews" check box in the advanced search feature to search for that content if necessary.

 

ACM Digital Library - The ACM DL is a  collection of citations and full text from the Association for Computing Machinery journal, newsletter articles and conference proceedings.
The *DL* is the full-text repository of papers from publications that have been published, co-published, or co-marketed by ACM and other publishers. The *Guide* is a collection of bibliographic citations and abstracts of works published by ACM and other publishers. Citations for all ACM published works are included in the Guide as a small subset of the total bibliographic space.

ACS Publications - American Chemical Society current Web Editions (1996 forward) and Journal Archives (1879-1995)

New DatabaseAfrican-American History Online - Provides in-depth information on the people, events, and topics important to the study of African-American history.

Agricola - This database contains bibliographic records from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. Coverage for AGRICOLA dates back to 1970 and includes more than 4.6 million citations. The citations are comprised of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audiovisual materials, and technical reports related to agriculture.

Alt Health Watch - This database focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. This database features indexing and abstracts going back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990

Annual ReviewsFounded in 1932, Annual Reviews provides researchers, professors, and scientific professionals with definitive academic resources in 32 scientific disciplines. Annual Reviews saves time by synthesizing the vast amount of primary research literature and identifying the principal contributions in the various fields. Complimentary online access has been provided by Annual Reviews.

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials combines the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion with ATLA's online collection of major religion and theology journals. The ATLA Religion Database includes more than 416,000 article citations from more than 1,500 journals (571 currently indexed), more than 210,000 essay citations from over 15,700 multi-author works, and more than 432,000 book review citations. This database begins in 1949 although indexing for some journal titles extends back into the nineteenth century. This database is produced by the American Theological Library Association.

Art Abstracts - Art Abstracts, provided by EBSCO Host, allows the user to search specialized media with some full-text capability. Art Abstracts allows users to search through documents and other formats such as art reproductions, video recording reviews, autobiographies & biographies, bibliographies, choreography reviews, corporate profiles, exhibits, fiction, television reviews, film reviews, opera reviews, musical comedy reviews, interviews, obituaries and other varied sources. Among the search modes available to users is "Smart Text Searching" in which the users is allowed to "Enter as much text for your search as you want - a phrase, a sentence, paragraph, or even whole pages."

Biography Resource Center - database of biographical information on more than 185,000 people. Full-text articles from nearly 275 periodicals.

Business Source Premier - Provided by EBSCO, this is one of the most definitive scholarly business databases, providing the leading collection of bibliographic and full text content. As part of the  coverage offered by this database, indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals back as far as 1886 are included. In addition to the searchable cited references provided for more than 1,200 journals, /Business Source / contains detailed author profiles for some of  the most-cited authors in the database. Journal ranking studies reveal that /Business Source Complete/ is the overwhelmingly superior database for full text journals in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, monographs, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles, SWOT analyses and more.

The Chronicle online is published every weekday and is the top destination for news, advice, and jobs for people in academe. The web site features the complete contents of the latest issue; daily news and advice columns; thousands of current job listings; articles; discussion forums; and more.

CINAHL - CINAHL Plus with Full Text - /CINAHL Plus with Full Text/, provided by EBSCO is, according to the vendor, the world's most comprehensive source of full text for nursing & allied health journals, providing full text for more than 750 journals indexed in /CINAHL./ This authoritative file contains full text for many of the most used journals in the /CINAHL/ index – with no embargo. /CINAHL Plus with Full Text/ is the definitive research tool for all areas of nursing and allied health literature. It allows for Boolean searching (using AND, OR, NOT) even in full-text articles as well as "Smart Text Searching" in which exact phrases and paragraphs can be sought from articles, headlines and abstracts.Including journal articles, there are 81 different publication formats available for searching through /CINAHL./

Commerce Clearing House (CCH) - Database of tax information and tax law.

Communication & Mass Media Complete: - /Communication & Mass Media Complete/ provides research solution in areas related to communication and mass media. /CMMC/ incorporates the content of /CommSearch/ (formerly produced by the National Communication Association) and /Mass Media Articles Index/ (formerly produced by Penn State) along with other journals in communication, mass media, and other closely-related fields of study to create a research and reference resource of wide scope and depth encompassing much of the communication discipline. The search page is presented in the same interface as all EBSCO database, /CMMC/ offers cover-to-cover (“core”) indexing and abstracts for more than 460 journals, and selected (“priority”) coverage of nearly 200 more, for a combined coverage of more than 660 titles. Furthermore, this database includes full text for 350 journals.

CQ RESEARCHER: provides coverage of health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy. Reports are published weekly in print and online 44 times a year by CQ Press, a division of Congressional Quarterly Inc.

Included is EBSCOhost Web with over 50 database on various subjects including art, business, education, pharmacology, psychology, and science; Biological Abstracts; Business Source Complete, Literary Reference Center and Book Index with Reviews.

Enviroment Index:  Environment Index contains more than 1,957,000 records from more than 1,700 domestic and international titles going back to the 1940s (including 1,125 active core titles) as well as more than 120 monographs. Environment Index also features an in-depth thesaurus, and author profiles will be provided for 6,500 authors in the discipline.

ERIC (Education Resource Information Clearinghouse) (1966- present) - U.S. Department of Education, covering the literature of education.

New DatabaseFacts On File - Issues and Controversies - Issues and Controversies is a database of articles treating contentious topics on which there is a great deal of debate and political dialogue.
On the search page, topics are arranged alphabetically by subject with the date of the latest FoF update. It's fully searchable as well.

The subscription provides access to 138 IEEE journals with 10 years of back files, and full-text PDF images of over 227,000 articles from IEEE journals, magazines, and transactions. PubMed Central - A free digital archive of life sciences journal literature at the U. S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) developed and managed by NIH’s National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM). PubMed Central gives users free access to over 250 full text journals. Although immediate free access to all content is desirable, some journals may delay release of their full text in PMC.
