Changing the telephone ring tone

Dial 572. The ring tone you hear immediately is your current ring tone. Press numbers 1 thru 8 pausing to hear the available ring tone choices. When you find the ring tone you want hang-up at that point. Only one ring tone is available per telephone set. Individual lines cannot be programmed with different ring tones. Adjusting your telephone ring volume is done by moving the slide bar located underneath or on the side of the telephone set.

Ring Volume

There is a slide control to adjust the volume of the ring on your ROLMphone. Usually, it is located underneath the phone, but on some models, it is on the side.

Pick-Up

The Pick-up feature allows you to answer a call ringing, on hold or queued at another extension from your own extension. If the extension is not in your pick group:

  • Press the PICK-UP key (or get dial tone and dial 3).
  • Dial the number of the extension.
  • If the extension is in your pick group, press the PICK-UP key two times (or get dial tone and dial 3).

Park

The Park feature is used to hold a call so it can be picked up at another extension. To park a call for pick-up at an idle extension:

  • Ask the caller to hold.
  • Press the TRANSFER key.
  • Dial 6.
  • Hang up.

To park a call for pick-up at a busy extension:

  • Ask the caller to hold.
  • Press the TRANSFER key.
  • Dial 6 followed by the extension number where you want to park.
  • Hang up

Speakerphone

Many ROLMphones have speakerphones. If you have one, you can use either the handset or speakerphone to make and receive calls. Note: The speakerphone alternates between parties, sensing voices. This means you and the other party cannot talk simultaneously.

  • To use the speakerphone to make a call, press the line key while the handset is on hook.
  • To use the speakerphone to answer a call, press the line key that is ringing.
  • To use the speakerphone during a handset conversation, press the SPKR key and hang up the handset.
  • To switch back to the handset, just pick it up.
  • To mute the speakerphone during a speaker conversation press MUTE. The other party cannot hear your local conversation, and
  • the light next to mute flashes. To turn off mute and resume your speaker conversation press MUTE again. The mute light goes off.

Open Listening

If you have a speakerphone, you can use your handset and, at the same time, let someone nearby listen to the conversation over the speaker. By using the handset and the speaker, the person nearby's voice will not be picked up by the speakerphone.

  • To use Open Listening during a handset call during the conversation, press the SPKR key.
  • To use Open Listening during a speakerphone call during the conversation, lift the handset and press the SPKR key.
  • To cancel Open Listening press the SPKR key again.

Conference Calls

Allows up to eight parties (including yourself) in a conversation. Two of the parties can be on trunks (outside lines). Any party can leave the conference by hanging up.
Get at least one party on line, then:

  • Press the TRANSFER key. You will hear a confirmation tone followed by internal dial tone.
  • Dial the next party. (For outside parties, dial the access code, usually 9, then the number.)
  • Press CONF (or TRANSFER) to add the new party to the conference.
  • Repeat steps 1-3 for each new party.
  • If the next party is busy, doesn't answer or refuses to conference: Press CONNECT to drop them and reconnect with the conference.

To drop the last party:
In case you accidentally added a busy or ringing extension as the last party, you can drop that party

  • Press the CLEAR key or press TRANSFER. The status light beside the CONF key blinks.
  • Dial 4. You will hear a confirmation tone
  • Press CONF (or TRANSFER) to rejoin the conference.

To determine your position in the conference with a display telephone:

  • Press TRANSFER. The status light blinks.
  • Press CONF (or TRANSFER) to rejoin the conference. The number of parties and your position in the conference is displayed.

To remove a party from the conference:

  • Press TRANSFER and dial 4. The status light blinks.
  • Dial the number for the position in the conference of the party you want to drop (1-8) You will hear the confirmation tone.
  • Press CONF to rejoin the conference.

Station Speed Call

This feature lets you set up single digit codes for your frequently dialed numbers. You can then dial one number to make an outside call. The station speed dialing sequence can include an extension, an outside number, a feature access code (or feature key), or a combination of up to 22 characters. A feature key pressed as part of a sequence counts as three characters. Station speed codes are not line dependent; you can set them up and dial them from any line on your phone. The Station Speed key is usually labelled STASP, STA SPEED, SPEED or SPDI.
To set a station speed key's dialing sequence on a display phone:

  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG). The key's status light turns on.
  • Press the STASP key (or dial ##3)
  • Enter the station speed code (0 to 9) you want to set up. Either the dialing sequence or NOTHING STORED is displayed.
  • Wait until NEW NUMBER is displayed.
  • Key in the dialing sequence you want. If you make an error while entering your sequence, press the CLEAR key to cancel your
  • changes. Then enter the sequence again.
  • When finished, do you want to set up another STASP number?
  • If yes, press the STORE key and go to step 3. If no, press the PROGRAM key (PROG). Its status light should turn off.
  • To set up a station speed key on a non-display phone:
  • Press the STASP key twice (or get dial tone and press ##3). You will hear a confirmation tone, then internal dial tone.
  • Dial the station speed code (0 to 9). You will hear a confirmation tone.
  • Enter the desired dialing sequence (include the access code for outside numbers).
  • Hang up.

To make a station speed call:

  • Press the STASP key (or get dial tone and press ##3).
  • Dial the station speed code (0-9).
  • To clear a station speed key on a display telephone:
  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG). The key's status light turns on.
  • Press the STASP key (or dial # # 3).
  • Enter the station speed code (0 to 9) you want to clear. The dialing sequence is displayed.
  • Before NEW NUMBER is displayed, press the CLEAR key. DELETED is then displayed.
  • When finished, do you want to clear another STASP number?
  • If yes, press the STORE key and go to step 3. If no, press the PROGRAM key (PROG). Its status light should turn off. Note: You
  • cannot clear a station speed number on a non-display phone or a phone without a CLEAR key, but you can set it to a different sequence.

Saved Number Redial

Lets you save a number you have dialed, so you can redial the number later by pressing just the SAVED NUMBER REDIAL key (usually labeled SNR or SAV/RDL). This feature works on one number at a time. A similiar feature, Redial Last Number, redials the last number dialed (as opposed to the last number saved).
To save a number you have just dialed:

  • Press SNR (or TRANSFER #4).
  • To call the saved number:
  • Press SNR or get dial tone.
  • Dial #4.
  • To change your saved number manually:
  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG).
  • Press SNR.
  • Enter the number you want to save. If you make an error while entering the number, press CLEAR and reenter it.
  • Press the PROGRAM key.

Repetory Dialing

Lets you set a repdial key to perform a dialing sequence including features access codes and/or numbers. The dialing sequence you define may contain up to 22 characters. You might want to use the Personal Lists feature of Phone Guide to keep track of your REPDIAL assignments. REPDIAL keys are sometimes labeled as DDS keys.

To set a repdial key's dialing sequence:

  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG). The key's status light turns on.
  • Press desired REPDIAL key.
  • Key in the dialing sequence you want, using feature access codes and digits exactly as you would normally dial them. If you make
  • an error while entering your sequence, press the CLEAR key to cancel your changes. Then enter the sequence again.
  • When finished, do you want to set up another REPDIAL key?
  • If yes, press the STORE key and go to step 2. If no, press the PROGRAM key (PROG). Its status light should turn off.

To dial using repertory dialing:

  • Press the desired repdial button; it will automatically select a line.
  • To make a consultation call with repdial:
  • With the first party on the line, press the desired repdial key. The PBX will place the first party on consultation hold before dialing the repdial.
  • To reconnect with first party: Press CONNECT.
  • To clear a repdial key on a display telephone:
  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG). The key's status light turns on.
  • Press desired REPDIAL button.
  • Before NEW NUMBER is displayed, press the CLEAR key. DELETED is then displayed.
  • When finished, do you want to clear another REPDIAL key?
  • If yes, press the STORE key and go to step 2. If no, press the PROGRAM key (PROG). Its status light should turn off.
  • Note: You cannot clear a repdial key on a non-display phone or a phone without a CLEAR key, but you can set it to a different sequence.

Callback Request

Use the Callback Request feature to have a busy, Do Not Disturb, or ringing extension call you back when it becomes free. This feature lets you hang up and have the PBX call you back with triple rings under the following conditions:

  • When a busy extension you are trying to reach becomes free
  • When a ringing extension you are trying to reach is used again and then becomes free
  • You can also use it to queue for an outside line when all external lines are busy. When you hear the other party's busy signal oring:
  • Press the Callback key (or CBK or press TRANSFER #1).
  • Listen for the confirmation tone. If you have a display phone, WILL CALL BACK is displayed.
  • Hang Up.

When the extension is free, you will be called back with a triple ring. On display phones, FREE is displayed along with the extension and name of the party you tried to call. When you answer, you will hear the other extension ring.
To accept the callback when you hear the triple ring:

  • Lift handset.
  • Listen for the extension you called to ring.

To cancel the callback from a display telephone:

  • Press the Callback key (or CBK) until the auto message you wish to cancel is displayed. The status light next to the Program key
  • turns on, indicating that your telephone is in program mode.
  • Press the CLEAR key. The word "DELETED" is displayed to confirm the cancellation.
  • Press the Program key (or PROG) to end the display.
  • To cancel the callback from a non-display telephone:
  • Get dial tone.
  • Press ##1. You will hear a confirmation tone.
  • Hang Up.

Clear

The clear key is used in programming the following features:
To cancel the callback from a display telephone:

  • Press the Callback key (or CBK) until the auto message you wish to cancel is displayed.The status light next to the Program key
  • turns on, indicating that your telephone is in program mode.
  • Press the CLEAR key. The word "DELETED" is displayed to confirm the cancellation.
  • Press the Program key (or PROG) to end the display.
  • To clear a DSS key on a display telephone:
  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG).
  • Press the DSS key you want to clear.
  • Before NEW NUMBER? is displayed, press CLEAR. DELETED is displayed.
  • Do you want to clear another DSS key? If yes, go back to step 2. If no, press the PROGRAM key (PROG).
  • Note: You cannot clear a DSS key on a non-display phone or any phone without a CLEAR key. But you can set it up to a different extension.

To clear a repdial key on a display telephone:

  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG). The key's status light turns on.
  • Press desired REPDIAL button.
  • Before NEW NUMBER is displayed, press the CLEAR key. DELETED is then displayed.
  • When finished, do you want to clear another REPDIAL key? If yes, press the STORE key and go to step 2. If no, press the
  • PROGRAM key (PROG). Its status light should turn off.
  • Note: You cannot clear a repdial key on a non-display phone or a phone without a CLEAR key, but you can set it to a different sequence.

  • Press the PROGRAM key (PROG). The key's status light turns on.
  • Press the STASP key (or dial ##3).
  • Enter the station speed code (0 to 9) you want to clear. The dialing sequence is displayed.
  • Before NEW NUMBER is displayed, press the CLEAR key. DELETED is then displayed.
  • When finished, do you want to clear another STASP number? If yes, press the STORE key and go to step 3. If no, press the
  • PROGRAM key (PROG). Its status light should turn off.
  • Note: You cannot clear a station speed number on a non-display phone or a phone without a CLEAR key, but you can set it to a different sequence.

Connect

Allows you to reconnect with a call placed on consultation hold, reconnect with a transferred call if the receiving party is unavailable, or to alternate between two parties during a consultation call.
In all cases: Press CONNECT.

Call Forwarding (FWD)

Sends your calls to another extension or outside number and overrides normal system forwarding for the conditions you choose. Variable forwarding can apply to: internal calls, external calls or both types of calls OR, it can apply when your extension is busy, rings but no one answers or in both conditions.
To forward internal and external calls under all conditions:

  • Get dial tone.
  • Press the FORWARD key (often labeled FWD or FORWD). OR #91
  • Dial the extension or outside number (include access code) to which calls go.
  • Hang up.
  • Result: The status light for your primary line flickers continuously, and the FORWARD light stays on, indicating it is forwarded.You
  • can still use your phone to place calls.

To cancel variable forwarding:

  • Get dial tone.
  • Dial ##91.
  • Listen for the confirmation tone.
  • Hang up.

Intercom

Call Lets you make a call directly through the speaker of a ROLMphone to a member of the same com group.
To make an intercom call:

  • Get dial tone. You must use an extension in the same com group of the number to be dialed.
  • Press INTCM (or get dial tone and dial 6)
  • Dial the com group member's com code number.
  • Listen for the confirmation tone.
  • Begin conversation.

To receive an intercom call:

  • Listen for double beep tone. The caller's voice will come over the speaker.
  • Answer through your speakerphone, or if you do not have one, lift the handset and answer.

To set up an auto intercom repdial key to a target com group member:

  • Get dial tone.
  • Press SET (or 566).
  • Press desired REPDIAL button.
  • Dial 6.
  • Dial the member's com group code.
  • Hang up.
