DEPARTMENT: CHEMISTRY POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Under the supervision of the P.I., the research assistant will support research activity in a Biochemistry laboratory environment. Routine responsibilities will include preparation of solutions, buffers, and media, growth and maintance of bacterial cultures, assisting in experimental work and record keeping. Knowledge of protein purification techniques, DNA/RNA isolation, and Western blotting is preferred. A bachelor's degree in chemistry and/or biology is required. Some laboratory experience in a Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology setting is preferred. DEPARTMENT: CHEMISTRY POSITION: Research Project Coordinator

The Chemistry Department at Xavier University of Louisiana is seeking a dedicated and experienced Research Project Coordinator to support the Director of the Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (PREM). The successful candidate must possess a high degree of professionalism and organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to handle multiple projects. The coordinator is expected to excel in management of NSF grants, budgets and site visits. Experience in working with multiple researchers and managing federally funded grants is a plus. Supports the Director and assists all senior personnel and students of the PREM. Manages schedule, arranges travel and meeting agendas for all PREM related activities. Develops and facilitates seminars, workshops, visiting professors, speakers, meetings, and conferences. Coordinates and makes accommodations for meetings and takes and maintains minutes as required. Other duties as required within the scope of the position. Bachelor's degree in science or an appropriate field, four years of experience as a program coordinator; OR, Master's degree in science or an appropriate field with three years as a program coordinator; OR, eight years of experience as a program coordinator. DEPARTMENT: Biology POSITION: Research Associate

A post-doctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Biology at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. POSITION: Research Staff for New Core Facility Laboratory

Applications are requested for two motivated and resourceful individuals to staff a new Cell and Molecular core facility laboratory that will support cancer research projects at Xavier University. One position will be filled at the Research Associate level with a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology and 2-3 years post doctoral experience in the academic research environment is required. The other position will be filled at the Research Assistant level with a BS or MS degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology and 2-3 years experience is required. Duties will involve support of faculty research projects with cell and molecular biology techniques (PCR, Real time PCR, Northern, Southern and Western Blots, PCR Array, 2D gels, other proteomics analysis, RNA and DNA extractions/preparation as well as cell culture services) as needed. Applicants with good communication skills as well as the desire and proven ability to interact with multiple research teams will be given highest priority. An individual with experience in proteomics techniques for the Research Associate position is also desired. POSITION: Molecular Modeler - Computational Scientist

Molecular Modeler - Computational Scientist Search Reopened: Xavier University of Louisiana seeks Ph.D. level research scientists to staff a new Molecular Modeling and Structure core facility. Xavier is expanding molecular modeling capabilities with the support of a NIH infrastructure grant and in partnership with the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium (LCRC) to provide a core facility that will support the broad computer aided drug design and molecular modeling needs of multiple cancer researchers at Xavier, Tulane and LSU Health Science Universities. Along with good interpersonal and communication skills, three to five years project application experience using commercial modeling software is required. Experience building, managing and screening virtual structure libraries as well as expertise with software from Tripos, Chemical Computing Group, OpenEye, Mol Networks, BioSolvIT and Cambridge is desired. POSITION: Research Assistant

Xavier University, College of Pharmacy is seeking a Research Assistant who will be required to perform both routine and sophisticated experimental procedures in the research laboratory of Dr. Robert Blake. He or she must demonstrate the ability to perform both routine and large scale bacterial cell culture and protein purification activities. The position will be responsible for bacterial cell culture as instructed by the laboratory director or his designee, including both routine maintenance and large scale growth activities; work punctually, neatly and reliably in the laboratory on a semi-independent or independent basis; perform experiments requiring skill in accurately manipulating small quantities of liquids and solids; operate scientific equipment in a responsible fashion after a brief period of training/orientation for each. They will also be required to perform routine maintenance. Some heavy lifting is required as well as a flexible schedule. An undergraduate or professional degree in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a suitable life science is required. Previous laboratory experience in microbiology or protein purification is highly desirable, but not absolutely mandatory. POSITION: Research Assistant

The College of Pharmacy is seeking a Research Assistant to work in the cardiac electrophysiology laboratory. In coordination and collaboration with principal investigators, the research assistant evaluates and maintains all activities related to the conduct of the clinical research project. Qualified candidates should possess a B.S. in biological sciences, or allied health sciences or nursing, excellent knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. POSITION: Assessment Specialist

Assessment Specialist - conducts comprehensive assessment of all STEM-related programs offering coherent STEM evaluation services across programs, analyzing best practices and gaps.

The assessment specialist will work with each summer program director to define goals and learning/operational outcomes specific to the respective programs; assist program directors in developing knowledge/skill-based assessments and program-based evaluations that emanate from program goals/ objectives; assist program directors in aggregating and analyzing assessment and evaluation data; assist program directors in producing assessment/evaluation reports inclusive of recommendations for improvement; centralize the data on summer programs/ program participants via an electronic system; and assist program directors in utilizing data in electronic system to monitor progress and maintain communication with program participants in an effort to recruit them into Xavier.
Education:   M.A., required; Ph.D. preferred. 
Areas of specialty:  Outcomes assessment, program review assessment, learning theory or related field, teaching, preferably in a STEM discipline

Additional experience:   Three to five years of program management experience and/or any combination of knowledge, skills and experience that is substantially equivalent; Evidence of scholarly activity, preferably with a focus on assessment; Excellent interpersonal and consultative skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Experience working with faculty from a variety of academic disciplines; Team player

POSITION: Administrative Assistant

Administrative Assistant - primarily responsible for clerical, communication, and procurement related activities of the Assessment Specialist and the Special Assistant to Academic Affairs.

Additional responsibilities include: Serve as clerical assistant, which could include managing personnel files, appointment schedules, preparing travel, etc.; Prepare direct order and/or purchase requisitions for the purchase of supplies or services; Work closely with the Special Assistant to Academic Affairs to complete monthly budget reconciliations; Perform duties related to traditional administrative functions, in addition to other clerical duties as noted above .

POSITION: Bioinformatics Specialist

The Deininger Lab at Tulane University and the Bioinformatics Group at Xavier
University of Louisiana is seeking applications for a joint Bioinformatics
Specialist position from Sep. 2009 to July 2014. Our research interests include, but
not limited to, predictive modeling of mammalian transposable elements, machine
learning and data mining for analyzing biological data, Graphical User Interface
(GUI) development and biological database creation, population and maintenance.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on an exciting
methodological research project sponsored by National Institute of Health (NIH).
The multidisciplinary and inter-institutional research environment will provide vast
opportunities to collaborate with experimental biologists to solve real-world
biological problems. Salary is commensurate with experience.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in one of the quantitative fields, such as
Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biomedical Sciences or Statistics etc.
Candidate with a master degree in Computational Sciences will also be considered.

POSITION: Assistant Director for Building Services

POSITION: Women's Head Volleyball Coach

Xavier University of Louisiana is now accepting applications for the full-time position of Head Women's Volleyball Coach. The head coach is responsible for directing all phases of a competitive women's volleyball program within the NAIA and Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Responsibilities include: Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of female student-athletes; recruit and retain qualified student-athletes; plan and conduct practices; develop a competitive schedule; develop training and conditioning programs; prepare and manage budget; establish and maintain effective relationships with the university community and its various constituents; adhere to all rules and regulations of Xavier University of Louisiana, Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and NAIA; and other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent); demonstrated knowledge of NAIA rules and a proven commitment to high ethical standards and academics; demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment; excellent organizational and administrative skills and some computer knowledge; superior knowledge of the techniques and strategies of the sport, success in recruiting student-athletes to a volleyball program committed to athletic excellence, and superior communication and public relations skills.

Preferred qualifications: Master's degree; College head coaching experience and a minimum of five years of successful intercollegiate coaching (assistant coaches from highly successful programs are encouraged to apply). Preference will be given to candidates that can most effectively meet the recruiting and development needs of the women's volleyball program.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes full University benefits package. This is a 12-month appointment and subject to annual renewal.

DEPARTMENT: Campus Police
POSITION: Campus Police Officer

This position provides security and protective services to the Xavier University community; respond to emergencies, complete necessary administrative reports, etc. Candidates should have knowledge of standard police practices and exhibit knowledge and skills in CPR and First Aid. Previous law enforcement experience is required. Must be able to successfully complete annual certification, and be able to commission with the City of New Orleans Special Officers Division or the University Police Commission Authority.
