CUR: What is your contribution to this proposal?
AS: I work with Dr. Crayton to perform various lab tasks that include gel electrophoresis, PCR, and analysis. Also we work on ways to combat data issues by discussing lab events and then working to solve those problems.
CUR: How does this proposal fit into your academic and social schedule?
AS: The lab hours are very convenient. You set the times you are available to work. The work I do actually serves as a benefit for my academic life because it forces me to think critically and work effectively in the time allotted.
CUR: Will this proposal assist you in your future academic/or career plans? If so, explain.
AS: Working on this proposal will definitely serve as assistance. I have grown to love the feelings of accomplishment that research provides. Also, through my work in the lab, I have decided that in addition to becoming a doctor, I definitely want to incorporate research in that journey.
CUR: Do you have any recommendations for future student assistants who will work in a similar field?
AS: Make the best of your experience. Ask questions and really try to understand what you are doing. Ultimately, don’t be afraid to get “hands-on”.
