Academically qualified students who are disabled are encouraged to attend Xavier University. Early staff identification of disability allows more time in which to determine the most appropriate services and accommodations.

Students requiring special assistance or consideration in order to meet academic requirements should advise their dean's office to the nature of their disability upon admission to Xavier or as soon as the need for assistance is known to exist. The DSS Coordinator should also be notified in order to arrange for services.

The Office of Disablity Services provides support and assistance to students with medical, physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities, especially those experiencing problems in such areas as academic program, and adjustment to the college experience and campus environment. Among the services provided, are those related to accessibility of campus facilities, individual counseling, reasonable classroom accommodations, advocacy for student needs, referral to appropriate governmental and community agencies. Students requiring special assistance or consideration in order to meet program or degree requirements should advise their dean's office of the nature of their disability as soon as they have been admitted or the need for assistance is known to exist. Students should also contact the ODS Office to arrange access to services available.

Adaptive Technological Services Available

Office of Disability Services (ODS) has the following technology software for students registered with the (ODS).  It is located in the Library, first (1st) floor computer lab.  Ask for Lab Supervisor for access the computer.  Below is a list of the software and equipment:

JAWS Pro  -  Screen reader

Open Book  -  Converts a printed page into electronic text to be read aloud through a voice synthesizer

MaGic  -  Magnifies screen information, from 2Xs – 16Xs it normal size

Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro Solutions  -  allows student to dictate, rather than type.
