1.When does the application process begin?
The on-line application is available August 1st each year.

2. What is the application deadline?
On-Line Application closes at 12 Midnight (CST) on October 15th.

3. When are all supporting documents due?
All supporting documents with the exception of PCAT scores should be submitted as soon as possible but no later than December 1st. Documents should not be submitted prior to submission of the on-line application.

4. Is the PCAT required?
The PCAT is required for all applicants beginning in Fall 2009.

Official transcripts must be mailed from the institution’s records’ office (Registrar) to Xavier University’s Office of Admissions. Transcripts and recommendation forms mailed by the applicant, even in a sealed envelope, are unacceptable for admission purposes.

6. How many students apply for admission each year?
Approximately 1,000 applications are received annually.

7. How many students are enrolled in each entering class?
165 students are admitted each year.

8. What grade point average is acceptable for consideration for admission?
All applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. The mean grade point average for applicant during the 2008-09 year was 3.20.

9. Does Xavier participate in the PharmCAS application process?
Xavier does not participate in PharmCAS at this time.

10. Is Xavier going to a seven (7) year Doctor of Pharmacy program?
There are no immediate plans to convert to a 7-year degree program but the curricular review is an ongoing priority of the faculty. The present curricular structure is subject to change.

11. What types of scholarships are available to students entering into the pharmacy program?
Currently, two federally funded scholarships are available to entering College of Pharmacy students. They are: (1) Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) based on financial need and (2) the U.S. Department of Education Title III Program based on financial need and academic qualifications.

12. Is federal financial aid available to College of Pharmacy students?
Federal financial aid is available to U. S. citizens and permanent residents. Students should follow the most current federal financial aid guidelines in applying for financial assistance.

13. What is included in the GPA calculated for admissions to the College of Pharmacy?
The cumulative GPA is calculated on the Pre-Pharmacy course requirements specified in the pre-pharmacy curriculum. However, the admissions committee also reviews the applicant’s entire transcript history. A separate GPA is calculated on required science and math courses.

14. Is a degree required in order to apply to the Xavier College of Pharmacy?
A student is not required to have a degree to apply to the College of Pharmacy, but completion of a four-year degree improves the competitiveness of application.

15. Must the required courses in theology/religion and philosophy be taken at Xavier University?
Transfer credit for theology/religion and philosophy courses will be accepted if the courses taken are equivalent to those offered by Xavier University. Theology/Religion courses submitted for transfer credit must be taken through an institution’s Theology or Religion Department. A general ethics course will not substitute for Health Ethics (PHIL 2400). The course must be equivalent to a bio-medical or health ethics course taught in a Philosophy Department.

16. Is macroeconomics acceptable for the economics requirement?
Effective Fall 2007, macroeconomics is not acceptable for the economics requirement. Economics courses transferred to Xavier must be equivalent to Xavier’s ECON 1030 (Introduction to Economics) or ECON 2010 (Principles of Microeconomics) taken at the school from which the applicant is transferring credits.

17. Is there a time limit on pre-pharmacy courses taken for admissions?
Science and math courses over five years old are generally not considered. Consideration for exceptions should be submitted to the College of Pharmacy’s Admissions Committee.

18. When are applicants notified of acceptance?
Screening of applicants will begin immediately upon receipt of completed applications. Screening will lead to two possible decisions by the Admission Committee.

Decision 1 - Selected for interview: Applicants will be notified by January 15th.

Decision 2 - Denied: Applicants will be notified by January 15th.

Upon completion of the interviews, applicants will be notified of decisions by April 15st. Three decisions are possible: accepted, placed on waiting list, or denied.

19. What is the policy regarding course deficiencies?
The College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee will not consider applicants with more than 7 semester hours of coursework to be completed in the summer prior to the fall term of admission.

20. Does the College of Pharmacy accept students from other school/colleges of pharmacy?
At present, transfers from other pharmacy programs are not accepted.

21. Is family housing available?
Family housing is not available.
