December 15, a deadline of October 15, is set for students enrolled in Xavier PrePharmacy and other departments.

3. How many students apply for admission each year?
Roughly 1,000 each year.
4. How many students are accepted for each class?
160 students are admitted each year.
5. What kind of grades do I need for consideration for admission?
Minimum grade point average for application is a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The average grade point average for entering students is a 3.2.
6. Is the PCAT required?
No, not at this time.
7. Does Xavier participate in the PharmCas application system?
No, not at this time.
8. Is Xavier going to a seven (7) year Doctor of Pharmacy program:
The Pharm. D. program as Xavier presently consists of 2 years in pre-pharmacy and 4 years in the professional program. There are not immediate plans to convert to a 7 year degree program.
9. What types of scholarships are available to students transferring into the pharmacy program?
Xavier University scholarships are generally awarded to incoming freshman students (recent high school graduates). All other financial aid awards are handled through the Office of Financial Aid based on an applicants FAFSA report.
10. How do you calculate the Admissions GPA?
Grade point average for admissions is calculated on the PrePharmacy Requirement. A separate grade point average for math and science courses are also considered, for committee review , however, the overall transcript is taken into consideration by the admissions committee.only use the highest grade received for this calculation.
11. If I placed directly into Calculus do I need to go back and take Pre-Cal or College Algebra?
NO. However, in cases not involving advanced placement credits, the applicant must present suitable math credits to fulfill math requirements listed under pre-pharmacy requirements. Transfer credit for “pre-calculus” is equivalent to a combination of courses in algebra and trigonometry. If other schools do not require a pre-calculus course before calculus, the student may submit other suitable math courses (e.g. Calculus II) with the passed calculus course – statistic courses should be avoided since biostatistics is required in the professional curriculum.
12. Am I required to have a degree for application to Xavier College of Pharmacy
No, however, the admissions committee does give certain consideration to application with previous degrees in science, technology, engineering and math.
13. Do I have to take the required courses in theology and philosophy at Xavier University?
No. Credits for these courses may transfer from other accredited institutions as long as they are equivalent to those offered by Xavier. Theology courses must be taken through a religion or theology department at other institutions. General ethics courses will not transfer as credit for the Health Ethics requirement – must be medical or bioethics.
14. Will macroeconomics be acceptable for the economics requirements?
No. Effective with the class entering Fall 2007, macroeconomics will not be acceptable for the economics requirements. For economics courses transferred to Xavier, the course should be either a microeconomics or one equivalent to Xavier’s ECON 1030.
15. What other items are of importance to the admissions Committee?
Many things, including but not limited to, letters of recommendation your essay, your writing sample, interview, knowledge of pharmacy as a career and your overall transcript.
16. If I get accepted, when will I hear?
Final decisions are made by the admissions committee, and applicants are notified by late April. All admissions decisions are conditional based on maintaining the Minimum admissions grade point average and completing all remaining pre pharmacy requirements. No grade of less than “C” can be transferred to Xavier University. The grade of “C-“ is not accepted for transfer from other institutions.
17. How many hours may an applicant be deficient during the summer prior to enrollment?
The College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee will not consider applicants with more than 7 hours of deficient work to be completed in the summer prior to anticipated enrollment.
18. Is family housing available?
At Presents, Xavier University only offers housing to single students. Those students with family needs must seek housing through private apartment developments. Either in the city bounds or a New Orleans suburb.
19. If I am re-applying to the College of Pharmacy, what must I do?
If you are re-applying to XUCOP you must complete a new application, statement of interest and submit all updated transcripts. We will keep the letters of recommendation for one calendar year. A written statement to the admissions office must be submitted in order that a file is reactivated.
20. Where should I send documents for the admissions packet?
All information should be mailed directly to the Xavier Admissions Office, 1 Drexel Drive, NOLA, 70125. Items required to be sent directly from another party (transcripts, recommendations) should be submitted from that party directly to Xavier University.
