A Message FROM THE sga president
seporator

Chelsea R. SingletonOn behalf of the administration, staff and student body of Xavier University of Louisiana, it is my pleasure to invite you to consider a collegiate experience that will change and enhance your life forever.

Xavier alumni are known across the world for being exceptional doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, educators, business leaders, journalists, research scientists and the like. And from personal experience, I can assure you that choosing Xavier is a great choice if your goal is to be the best professionally in whatever field you desire.

As a senior Biology major and president of the Student Government Association (SGA), I know that Xavier has thoroughly prepared me for my career in public health. All of the academic programs here are designed to nurture students and prepare them to be world leaders. And that remains true, despite our campus enduring the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. As students, we never imagined attending a school and having to experience such an event. However, with hardship often comes an opportunity to rise to greater heights. Hurricane Katrina may have added to the character of our people and enhanced the very principles upon which this university was founded.

St. Katharine Drexel clearly understood when she founded Xavier, the necessity to provide minority students with a quality education – second to none – and the skills needed to become leaders in their communities. Her vision was to help build a more just and humane society. Therefore, now is the time for you to become apart of the ongoing rebuilding of one of history’s greatest cities, New Orleans, while earning a college degree from one of the most prestigious institutions in America.

Finally, take advantage of the other opportunities that Xavier provides.  Higher education is not only about gaining intellectual knowledge, but acquiring social and community skills as well. Extra-curricular activities are a great way to meet new people, find your place, and to create wonderful memories of your time here.  At Xavier we offer a wide array of clubs, organizations and teams to suit the needs and interests of the student body.

This year we had nearly 800 first time freshmen and more than 100 transfer students to choose Xavier. And now that applications are being accepted for the 2009-2010 Freshman class, this is the best time ever to become part of the groundbreaking history, self-exploration, and academic excellence offered here.

If SGA can be of any service to you please feel free to e-mail me at sgapres@xula.edu or sga@xula.edu or call at 520-7367.

Sincerely,

Chelsea R. Singleton
2008-2009 SGA President
